Q: 1989 Honda accord temperature gauge?
I have a 1989 Honda Accord.
My problem is when you put your foot on the brake pedal or turn on the headlights the temperature gauge goes up to hot.
What is the problem and how do I fix it?
A: Buzzett
Your most likely failure is a ground wire has either been broken, corroded, or has not been reconnected after service on the engine.
The best way to locate the failure is to locate a QUALITY wiring diagram and follow all of the chassis and engine ground connections.
Q: How do I install an ignition cylinder in my 1989 Honda Accord LXI?
I need to install an ignition cylinder in my Honda. Do I have to take part of the steering wheel off? I know there is a pin at the top I have to push down on but it doesn't seem to be loosening it enough to take it out.
A: this is the procedure from the 1990 accord manual. Probably the same for your 1989.
1. Remove the steering wheel, then remove the steering
column covers.
2. Remove the bulb/socket from the key light case by
turning the socket 45°, then remove the screw and
the key light case from the lock body.
3. Turn the ignition key to "I".
4. Push the pin in and remove the lock cylinder from
the lock body.
5. Turn the key to "0" and align the lock cylinder with
the lock body.
6. Turn the key almost to "I" and insert the lock
cylinder until the pin touches the body.
7. Turn the key to the "I", push the pin and insert the
lock cylinder into the lock body until the pin clicks
into place.
hope that helps
Q: Does the 1988 and 1989 Honda Accord have the same motors and Automatic Transmissions?

Q: How to adjust the cluch of a 1989 Honda Accord 4CLY?
I have over 280,000 miles on a 89 Honda Accord. The cluch was replace over three years ago. At this time I can feel the cluch slipping and the cluch petal has no play to it. I want to adjust the cluch to the car. How is it done?
A: If it's like my old 88 it does not have hydraulic clutch. There is a plastic nut you can adjust at the bracket where the clutch cable goes into the top of the transmission. It should be under a rubber boot.
If it's starting to slip, you don't have much time left. If the adjustment helps I would say 1 month at best.
Q: What engine comes stock in a 1988 - 1989 Honda Accord?
What engine type/series is in a 1988/1989 Honda Accord. I need an engine diagram for a 1988/1989 Honda Accord.
A: 88/89 honda accords comes with an A20A 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine.
Q: Can you put a 1989 Honda accord engine and transmission into a 1991 Honda accord body frame?
I have a wrecked honda accord with engine miles that are low and I want to pay a buddy to transfer the engine and transmission into another honda accord with a non wrecked body. I want to know if the model I buy will configure to the body style I need.
A: If you have a JDM 89 Accord, then YES, but odds are that you don't so the answer is NO.
Why? The 89 had the flip-up headlights, a weaker and competely different engine and transmission. The 90-93 Accords were competely redesigned and had a FI 2.2L I4 of anywhere from 125 to 140 horse under the engine code of F22 (a Prelude H22 or H23 VTEC could even be put into a 90-93 Accord with little modification, and has been done dozens of times).
Your best bet would be to ditch the 89 and go with a the 91. Even though the 91 has the annoying automatic seatbelts, it has a wider wheelbase and is a far safer car, has better performance, and more european handling than the 89 does... not to mention it gets almost 30mpg on the highway. A complete engine/tranny drivetrain F22A1 (90-93 DX, LX, 90-91 EX) can be had for well under $1K at most salvage yards.
A great source for 90-93 Accord parts, performance, information, and anything you may need is at www.cb7tuner.com.
Take care.
Q: How do I fix the popup headlights on a 1989 honda accord lxi?
The headlights/highbeams all seem to work but the motors seem to be dead how do i check or fix this?
A: Not certain how to fix those, but i do know that it seems like every vehicle that has used those pop up headlights over the years have always had problems with them. Something that simple, you would think that it would be easy to have mastered by now.
We had a Ford Probe years ago with pop-up lights. They got stuck, my husband purchased some sort of "rebuild kit" which contained the motors and gears to replace all the parts in them. Im sure they make a kit like that for your car as well, just surf around the net.
Q: How do I get my 1989 Honda Accord Coupe to start?
Whenever I try to start my car it sounds like it is trying to turn over but it won't. I don't think it is getting gas. I have gas in it. What should I look for that may be causing it to not get any gas. It has fuel injection.
A: when you say turn over, do you mean crank? when you turn the key does it make a healthy, fast paced cranking sound or does nothing happen at all? If the cranking sound is slow and then it stops all together, or if you turn the key and nothing happens then it is probably the battery. If it cranks normally, but won't start, then it's most likely a fuel or spark problem and can't be diagnosed in a forum like this.
Q: Where is the flywheel on a 1989 Honda Accord?
I need to check the timing marks but I don't know where the flywheel is located.
A: Timing marks are usually found on the crankshaft pully on the front of the engine. But then... If you don't know where the flywheel is, what good is it going to do you to check the timing marks? Would you even know what to do with them if you found them?
Q: What size bolts are on a 1989 Honda Accord Lxi's alternator?
I need replacement bolts for my alternator. The long bottom bolt and the top bolt that holds the tensioner. I need to know the size of these bolts.
A: Don't you have the old ones? Just check the size.
If you lost the old bolts and need new ones, it really doesn't matter. Whatever bolts will fit in the holes and hold the thing in will work.
Q: Automatic Window not working in 1989 honda accord?
Today me & my brother removed the passenger side panel of my honda accord, almost immediatly after my window wouldn't wind up.
A fuse had blown & we replaced it. It hasn't blown since. We have tried another switch (two actually), the loom & one other part, i just can't remember its name.
Suggestions of how to get it working again?
the motor works as i used a batt to wind the window back up , the relay i tryed another one stiil didnt work , also i tryed another switch .
A: its probably the relay gone bad on it,they have a relay that works for the automatic window and if it goes bad it doesn't work at all,the only thing left is the relay or the motor, and they usually give a warning before the go out,id check the relay before i did anything else to it,good luck.
Q: Why is the oil light in my 1989 Honda Accord on?
Yesterday morning the oil light came on in my car, but I had the oil changed a couple of weeks ago (literally almost two). I took it in to Kwik Kar and they said there was no oil leak and the oil level was fine and simply just told me to stop driving it (which I honestly cannot do with my schedule right now).
What could possibly be wrong with it? Where should I take it in the Carrollton/Plano, TX area?
A: It could be a couple of things. Lots of cars have automatic oil light that comes on after so many miles. maybe when you had the oil changed, they forgot to reset it. Thats most likely what happened. (same thing just happened in my camaro). but it could be low on oil, I would check the oil yourself, or take it to another place to have it checked out. when it comes to garages, a second opinion is always best
Q: How to change a egr valve on a 1989 Honda accord LX carb?
Once in awhile it will idle high at sign signs or stop lights but it has a new carb.
A: Not really a sign of a bad egr valve. A bad valve will cause your car to run rought, surge or die. Have you checked your coolant level. On hondas there is a fast idle valve that is submerged in the coolant. When the cooland heats up the valve will close and your idle will return to normal. If the coolant level is low hondas have a tendency to idle high or have surging idle
