Q: What new engines can you put into a 1989 Honda CRX?
The CRX is a 4 Speed Manual
A: You probably have the HF (economy) model with the piddly 62 hp engine. This is not a great starting point but on the plus side you have nowhere to go but up. You'd be better off finding a nice, relatively clean CRX Si (105-108hp) of similar vintage rather than trying to re-engine your current car. It will cost less and you will get more for your money. But if you insist the easiest swap is probably a Euro-spec ZC motor from the late-80's/early 90's Civic/CRX. There are many variations of this engine though, not all of them will work well, the swap is poorly documented in the U.S. and on a non-Si CRX it may not even work at all without extensive and expensive modifications involving swapping of the complete wiring harness, transmission, axles, etc. But the engine comes in 107, 120 and 130hp flavors.
An article on this swap can be found in the July/Aug 1998 Grassroots Motorsports magazine.
Q: 1989 Honda CRX engine that has been modified...?
I bought a 1989 Civic DX with a 1989 Honda CRX engine and tranny. The guy told me he bored out the engine 75 over and that it has oversized pistons and upgraded internals, he has also decked the head. The things drives and sounds great! I am wondering where I can find info on what displacement this engine may be being a 1.6L bored 75 over. What horsepower may this thing have, it still pulls at 7000 rpms. Where can I find a site that will give me info on more performance parts and accessories???
Displacement : 1590 cm3
Bore and Stroke : 75 mm X 90 mm
Compression : 9.6:1
Power : 118 hp @ 6000 rpm & 100 ft·lbf @ 5000 rpm
Valvetrain : SOHC
Fuel Control : OBD-0 MPFI
A: To get a true reading of horsepower, you would need to take it to a shop with a dyno.
As per the displacement, you would have to know the original size of the bore.
Q: where can i buy a turbo kit for my 1989 honda crx if online what web sight?

Q: 1989 Honda CRX SI 1.6 SOHC Won't Charge When Cold?
1989 Honda CRX SI D16A6 SOHC Non Vtec This vehicle will not charge when the air temp out side is 50 degrees or below. The colder, the worse. It is 36 today and I had to jump it off my truck and leave them hooked up for over one hour. Once it starts charging I can disconnect it and drive normal. Untill it sits for more than an hour or two, then it won't charge again. I have replaced the alternator three times, rewired twice, replaced the battery four times, replaced both fuse panels (hood & dash) twice and the main relay and fuses several times. Never a difference. I thought it might be the ECU so I pulled it out and took it in and let it warm up over night and it still didn't help. I AM GOING KRAZY!!! Lol Any great answers out there? Thanks in advance!
A: oh goodness! that is a problem, i guess that happened to my civic a couple weeks ago and i just jumped it and added anti-freeze and that seemed to work because it stayed charged all day when i left to go home. you could also try installing a block heater and plugging it in to an outlet so the fan runs all night and it keeps the engine warm and it pretty much gurentees that the civic will keep the charge. good luck!
Q: 1989 honda crx rear defroster grid repair?
how do i restore electrical continuity to my 1989(88-91) honda CRX rear defroster grid?
i tested for continuity and there is none.(it tested fine on my other CRX so I do know how to test)
PO tinted rear hatch window with interior film-good job too. would that affect it?
if defroster grid is broken-is there a way to repair it?
visual inspection shows it appeasr to be good but hard to tell with tinting in place.
I had just done a continuity test between opposite contact sides. on a known good car-it was a complete circuit, on the car in question(same model) it was open. i was unable to observe obvious breaks(in teh dark in the rain on a tinted window) and would have to remove tinting in order to repair anyway. I imagine the PO may have had tinting removed and so damaged grid.
A: If it is a damaged heating element you will have problems repairing. There is a paint on repair fluid available, but this is only suitable for very small breaks that you can see.
Have you got power to one side of the window and a good earth (ground) to the other side? If you have both of these and the connections are good I feel you will have to consider a replacement screen.
Q: Should I buy this 1989 Honda CRX ?
I haven't driven it yet but I'm going to soon. I'm not gonna mod it or anything, I just want to know if its reliable and if theres anything commonly wrong with 89 crx's and also what the gas mileage would be...
"This is a very nice, non modified 1989 CRX Si. It has always been garaged and well taken care of. The car does not leak or burn any oil. There is no rust. It starts, idles and runs great. The transmission is smooth and precise. Everything works as it should. The AC, power top, etc. The interior is all original down to the floor mats. There are no tears or damage to the seats or carpet. All in all, I would say that the car is in very good to excellent condition."
and also how much would be a fair price for it... hes asking 2400 but i could probably get it for 2000 or 1900
A: "This is a very nice, non modified 1989 CRX Si. It has always been garaged and well taken care of."
This alone, if true, means that yes, you should.
It also means you might not be able to talk him down.
If everything DOES really work, and if it really DOES have no rust, jump on this car. And then KEEP IT STOCK.
If you're looking for a CRX to modify, buy one that is already modified. Stock CRXes, particularly SIs, are rare, and getting rarer.
Q: 1987 civic si or 1989 honda crx?
i wanna start a project that i
can swap a monster of a motor in
i wanna keep it a sleeper.
that means all motor.
either a 1987 honda civic si or a crx but
i prefer the hatchback
its better..thkz
A: Neither car is capable of a monster motor swap, and neither is that great of a choice.
If you want a project car, get a 5.0 mustang. They have 10 times the potential of either of those, are just as cheap to mod, and are more receptive to mods. CRXs and civics were made as slow family cars. Its extremely difficult to make them anything but that. Its fairly easy to buy a 5.0 mustang that runs 11s for under 5 grand.

A: I got a question. How do you go through the drive through at McDonalds?
Q: what type of engine can I fit into my 1989 Honda CRX Si?
A: lawn mower should fit nicely
Q: 1989 Honda CRX SI What's it worth?
I bought this car brand new & only have 24K miles on it. Nothing has been changed / it's just how it rolled of the dealer lot. I only added after market a/c. Mint Condition
A: I wouldn't take less then $10,000 for that one.
Q: i have a question what does all that stuff mean for a 1989 honda crx?
b18a engine ,2 piece headers, 10 lbs of nitrous boost
A: B18a engine is one of the varieties of engine that were available for that car. Many people like to refer to the engine codes, because they think it sounds cool, or there's some benefit in saying that, rather than 1.8 liter engine.
2 piece headers, means exactly that. The headers which are your exhaust pipes directly attached to your engine, have two pieces to them. Most headers are one solid piece.
10lbs of nitrous boost, actually means nothing. Wherever you saw that, the person that said it was mentally handicapped. Nitrous is usually found in 50, 75, 100, 150, 200lbs, etc. 10lbs of it, would do literally nothing to the vehicle. It's also not "boost." It's just nitrous.
Q: Anybody know where I can get a sunroof for a 1988 or a1989 Honda crx on Oahu, Hawaii only?
My nephew has a 1988 or an 1989 Honda Crx parked in front of my house he is trying to put his car back together. The sunroof is not available through Honda anymore. I'm trying to find him one on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii so we don't have to pay for shipping it in. Anybody out there want to sell their sunroof?
A: Off hand, no. But I used to live in Kailua. Any possibility of getting you to send me some li hing mui & lemon peel?
That would be sooooo awesome. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Funny, the things you miss.
If you could throw a few plumerias in -that would be divine.
I'll check around for a sun roof- who knows? That would be a lot of seed. LOL
E- me, please, errrr mahalo. Love you.
Q: Which is faster the 2008 Honda Civic Si Coupe or the 1989 Honda Civic Si CRX?
A: Duh, the newer one. Assuming they are both stock.
